Corona Virus

The recent outbreak of Corvid-19 or Coronavirus is obviously a concern to everyone and we would just like to reassure guests that we at Bosinver are heeding the latest government advice and best practice in relation to site cleanliness and anti viral chemicals used. We have installed several hand sanitizer stations in communal facilities and are being fastidious with surface cleaning and hand washing regimes. We are also part of a task force that has just been set up by Visit Cornwall who represent the tourism industry to provide guidance as the situation develops.

Regarding potential cancellations, please note at the time of booking you commit to paying for your holiday.  We have always strongly recommended that you take out travel insurance appropriate to your needs when you book, so please check your own insurers terms and conditions.

Bosinver facilities & activities

Especially outside of school holiday season, Bosinver is ideal for couples wanting a peaceful or romantic break – our cottages are stylish and quirky and the tranquility of Bosinver makes a wonderful setting to spend quality time together. Bosinver makes a great base too for exploring Cornwall – there are beach walks and great restaurants just a short distance away and there’s even an award winning pub within walking distance just down the lane, the Polgooth Inn.

Parents of babies or toddlers will be delighted with all the additional equipment we can supply, meaning that you don’t have to load up the car with all that gear. We aim to make your holiday as relaxing as possible and we try to think of everything so you don’t have to.

We have several larger cottages sleeping up to 8 or 12. Groups of family or friends often take several cottages which afford them the chance to stay somewhere together and yet also have some quiet time from each other.

You will see from our map that our cottages are all detached and located around our 30 acre farm much like the layout of a small village – a short walk from one another but far enough apart to feel private. They are all lovingly and uniquely furnished with a character of their own – some guests like to try an new cottage each time they visit!

We now have superfast wi-fi in all our cottages as well as an internet room (next to the office) with a PC and printer you can use or quiet space for using your own laptop.

We have a beautiful indoor pool heated by renewable technologies (supplied by the lovely people at zlcenergy) to a wonderful 30 degrees C with an outdoor sun deck patio. The pool is accessed by a shallow few steps with handrail and has a level depth of 1.2m. The swimming pool building also houses a sauna and both are open all year round apart from the period from mid January to early February when our site is closed for maintenance (please contact us for exact dates)

Our farm cottages come equipped with a raft of high quality kitchen and nursery equipment (see the inventory) and we have many items of beach gear such as buckets, spades, boogie boards, BBQs, windbreaks, children’s splash suits and even a selection of wellies for you to borrow freely, however there are a few items you will need to remember to bring yourselves. They are: beach/pool towels, cot bedding, potties, dog bedding and towels for paw wiping, if relevant.

We supply welcome packs of tea and coffee, salt and pepper, 2 tea towels and enough washing up liquid and toilet rolls to get you started, but please bear in mind that we don’t leave goods in cupboards from one guest to the next, so if you use sauces such as ketchup etc., please bring them with you!

You can order travel cots, stair barriers (there’s already a stair gate at the top of the stairs of our 2 storey cottages), booster seats, high chairs and bed guards when you book online. In addition we have blackout blinds, strollers, baby carriers, baby baths, baby monitors and a host of other baby equipment for you to borrow – please see our Babies and Toddlers page.

Each of the cottages has a folding wooden cot already in it (see individual cottage pages for details). The cots have a mattress but we do not supply cot bedding, so please bring this with you.  If you would prefer a travel cot (larger than some of the wooden cots) we can also supply 1 per cottage.  Please bring your own cots if you need more than this.

All pillows and duvets are hypo-allergenic but please note we do have a few feather cushions in some of the cottages which can be removed prior to your stay on request.

Some cottages have larger gardens than others and none are fenced off, so everyone has access to the outdoor play areas, herb garden, Wendy House, trampoline, zip wire and the 30 acres of farmland and woodland that we have here at Bosinver – there’s plenty of road-free, natural outdoor space to explore!

You can help Farmer Dave and Helen feed our friendly chickens, ducks, goats and sheep and collect eggs every morning (except Saturdays). Meet by the gate in front of the animal feeding area at around 9.45 and Farmer Dave will come and find you.

We usually do pony rides on Tuesday mornings after animal feeding, depending on the weather and when staff are available. Check the info boards outside the office to find out which day it is.

We run our outdoor play Wild Kids club with Forest School leader Tatum usually one afternoon a week (often Monday afternoons), gearing the activities to whatever age range we have staying that week.  This free of charge session runs depending on numbers of children, weather and staff availability.

You’re welcome to feed the chickens and ducks crushed up digestive biscuits or cornflakes (please don’t feed them bread). We don’t allow people to feed the horses as it can lead to them developing bad habits and pestering people for food.

We usually have local free range farm eggs for sale in reception.

We’ve got lots of different board games, dominos, playing cards and jigsaws you can borrow from the office. The play barn and games room are also popular if the weather is inclement.

Booking a stay

All our availability is shown live on our website and you can book online. Please call us on 01726 72128 if you cannot find what you are looking for.

Short breaks of 3 or more nights are available from mid-September to mid-May – please call us in the office on 01726 72128 if you wish to discuss possibilities.

In high season (mid-May to mid-Sept) only weekly bookings are allowed.  During this time some cottages have Friday as their changeover day, others start on Saturdays.

We occasionally have special offers outside of the high season – please sign up for our newsletter and check out our special offers page to see what is currently available. We may be able to offer a discount for large group taking more than one cottage.  We do offer a Bosinver Family discount for loyal guests who have stayed with us 3 or more times – please contact us for details if you qualify.

If only the larger cottages are left available and you have a small group (half the number the cottage sleeps and not needing to use all the bedrooms), then a 30% discount for low occupancy may apply to the Farmhouse and Jacks Barn. Please call to discuss on 01726 72128.

Yes – if you book one of our dog-friendly cottages (shown with a paw print symbol) you can bring one medium size or two small dogs with you as long as we know in advance. There is a charge of £40 per dog per week. Dogs aren’t allowed in any of our cottages during the Whitsun half term week or the main school summer holidays and we regret we cannot accept puppies under 1 year old due to the potential risk of damage to furnishings. Each of the dog friendly cottages has a porch (or in the case of the Farmhouse a tiled kitchen) and we are happy for you to leave dogs in their dog crates in the the porch, but otherwise please don’t leave dogs on their own in your cottage. If you have to go out without them, we’ve got an enclosure where you can leave them safely with us for a few hours, or we can put you in touch with a local pet-sitter (book in advance). Towels for use in the cottage are provided within the price of your holiday – we supply a bath sheet and a bath towel per adult (for a child a bath towel and hand towel) plus a hand towel in the bathroom.  Please just bring any additional towels for the pool and the beach.

Our cottages are cleaned and presented to you to the highest possible standards. In order to be able to meet our changeover deadlines we do need the cottages to be left clean and tidy with any rubbish removed and furniture back in its proper place with a quick hoover around. Some families however, have indicated that they wish to have a complete break from housework whilst on holiday, so in response we have introduced a cleaning service (mid week or the day you leave) which you can request and pay for prior to arrival. As our cottages are of different sizes, the prices reflect the length of time they will take to clean. If you do request a clean during your stay, please tidy up your personal belongings so the main areas can be cleaned throughout and the beds made.

Please select the date you wish to have your cottage cleaned on the form when booking online. Please note we cannot offer this service on a Sunday.

If you are staying 2 weeks or more, bed linen, tea towels and towels will be changed mid-stay by our housekeeping staff.

All bookings must be accompanied by a non-refundable deposit (25% of the total cottage rental cost).

The balance is due 62 days (2 months) before your holiday’s due to start. We’ll send you an email 4 days before the due date to remind you that your balance is due.

To make payment online just login to your account via our homepage using the email address and password supplied when booking (you will be given the opportunity to reset the password if you have forgotten it). If you have difficulty paying online you can call the office on 01726 72128 to pay over the phone by debit card. Please note, we cannot currently accept payments by credit card. We can also now accept bank transfers please contact us on 01726 72128 for details of our account. For bank transfers you must quote your booking reference, cottage name and start date as your reference and email us via reception@bosinver.co.uk to confirm your payment via this method. If paying by bank transfer please allow 48 hours for confirmation of receipt. To pay by cheque (payable to Bosinver Farm Cottages) please ensure that it is sent in time to be cleared by the due date. All prices include VAT.

If you would like delicious, fresh Cornish food delivered to your cottage, the lovely people at the award winning Cornish Food Box Company can supply everything from fresh, free range meat, salad, vegetables, fish and seafood to alcohol, bread, dairy and so much more – everything comes from Cornish farmers, fishermen, bakers and food suppliers.

To order just visit the Cornish Food Box Company website Bosinver guests can enjoy a £5 discount on orders over £50 – contact us for the voucher code quoting your booking reference. Deliveries to Bosinver can be made on Wednesday early evenings, or during the day on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Everything will be put away in the fridge for your arrival.

We also love supporting the fabulous team at People and Gardens who will deliver their fresh seasonal veg from the Eden Project’s Watering Lane Nursery to Bosinver.  By ordering from them, you’ll be supporting this not-for-profit organisation to continue providing opportunities and employment for disadvantaged individuals. To order email peopleandgardens@hotmail.co.uk or call 01726 70721 / 07816 230630.

Our local village shop and post office, Polgooth Village Stores, also has an excellent range of produce sourced locally wherever possible. They can also arrange for a newspaper to be delivered to Bosinver and you can even settle up your bill at the store during your stay. It is worth noting that they bake fresh bread and croissant every day and you can call them in the morning to order pasties for pickup at lunchtime – great for a picnic!

If however you prefer to have a supermarket delivery, Tescos, Sainsburys and Asda can deliver here and are familiar with our location – please just make sure you tell them which cottage you are staying in (giving your mobile contact number) and book the delivery for a time slot no earlier than 5pm please as the delivery lorries block our lanes if they come when guests are arriving. Please make sure that the delivery will be for a time when you are in your cottage as we can’t take responsibility for deliveries.

As long as you let us know in advance, as we need to know who’s on site.  All we ask is that they do not take advantage of facilities that we have provided for our paying guests.

Sorry, no – we are governed by fire regulations and cottages can only sleep the prescribed number of people.

Arrival

We’re approximately three miles to the west of St Austell, next to the village of Polgooth off the A390. Getting to Bosinver by public transport is easy, as St Austell station is not far away. Please don’t rely on your sat nav if driving, it may send you round the bend! For further details please see our location map.

Our reception office is usually open between 8.30-5pm, Monday-Saturday. Our mobile numbers are on the board outside the office if you need to get hold of one of us in an emergency.

Check in time is 3pm on your day of arrival and checkout is 10am on your leaving day.

Please let us know if you’ll be arriving into the evening. If there is no-one in the office when you arrive please locate your cottage from the map next to reception and go ahead and let yourself in – the key will be in the door and if it’s dark we will have left the lights on for you.  Someone will call by to see you later in the evening/the next morning to welcome you and answer any queries.

During your stay

We’ve got several McClaren strollers and a number of framed and soft baby carriers you can borrow for a small refundable deposit. Please ask in the office.

Lowen and Pentree cottage each have their own washing machine.  As we are in the countryside and not connected to mains drainage we have provided a centralised laundry room which allows us to control runoff water and prevent pollution.  If you are staying in any of the other cottages then you can use the laundry which has several commercial washers and dryers. Washers are free and dryers take pound coins – just pop into the office if you need change. Alternatively you can use our washing lines in the Farmhouse garden or drying shed for free.

Our big green shed (next to the Farmhouse) has several pairs of spare wellies, which you are welcome to borrow. We don’t have every size, but you’ll usually find something to fit. Just help yourselves and return them to the shed when finished (nice and clean please, we have a hose for washing them off next to the laundry).

The little white shed next to the office is full of beach equipment, including body boards, fishing nets, crab lines, buckets and spades etc. Just help yourselves – don’t forget to bring it back (washed clean of sand please) when you’ve finished using it.

We also have several BBQs available in the big green shed, but you will need to buy your own charcoal. Help yourselves to the BBQs and return them clean after use to the shed – please don’t leave them outside as they’ll get rusty.

Of course – just pop into the office and we’ll give you a new one straight away.

Don’t worry! Just let us know and we’ll give you another one. (Please place any broken glass carefully in the glass recycling bin).

We’ve got local walking/jogging/cycling maps in the office you’re welcome to borrow, as well as a variety of OS maps and walking books. We’re always happy to suggest great places to go, just ask for our tried and tested recommendations.
