Nature-lead, low-stress holidays for families

If you’re looking for a holiday that delights your little nature-lovers and gives them a genuine dose of fresh air, wildlife, exploring and adventure — then Bosinver is perfect for you and your family. Set in 30 acres of farmland, wildflower meadows and woodlands, blending luxury and comfort along with nature right on your doorstep. With wide open spaces for your little ones to explore at their own pace, not only can your children join in with animal feeding every morning with Farmer Dave, they’re free to explore our fields and say hello to our very friendly ponies and shires.

Go for a wander down to the lake and spot all sorts of birds including King Fishers and Herron’s. Enjoy our Gruffalo trail, see how many squirrels you can spot! Grab some wellies from our green shed and discover our tree swings, enjoy all the outdoor play equipment, complete the nature trail and win prizes, explore around the wild kids hut and toast some marshmallows. We make learning about nature, fun and physical, encouraging children’s curiosity, motor-skills and sense of wonder.

We understand families and little ones: you’ll find baby/toddler-friendly cottage features, and our outdoor setting invites natural play rather than screens. For example, a TripAdvisor review says

Perfect place for a family holiday packed with nature and outdoor activity We had a fantastic week at Bosinver, with two children aged 7 and 6. It is a beautiful place with plenty of opportunities to watch birds and enjoy nature”.

Not only are you surrounded by nature, we are in a great location to nature-rich Cornwall. While you might not even feel the need to leave the farm, Bosinver is also ideally located for exploring Cornwall’s wild and beautiful landscapes.  Nature reserves, beaches, gardens and woods are within easy reach. This gives you flexibility — nature at the cottage and nature out and about.

Practical tips for staying with little nature-lovers: Use our list of what equipment we have here as a checklist so you don’t have to pack those things. We supply everything you need for getting wet and muddy!

  • Choose a cottage with a enclosed garden/patio if you have toddlers who nap or need safe outside space.
  • Book during term-time or off-peak if you want a slightly quieter experience (less full of other families).
  • Try to let the kids lead: animal feeding, nature trails, spotting birds/insects — these simple things often become their favourite memories.

Other nature-rich things to do in Cornwall for little nature lovers: One of the most magical ways for children to connect with nature is by exploring Cornwall’s rocky shores at low tide. Within a short drive of Bosinver, you’ll find several beaches perfect for tiny explorers armed with buckets, nets that we have here for you to use.

 1. Porthluney Cove (Caerhays Estate) – 20 mins away A family-friendly cove with soft sand and plenty of rock pools to discover.  What you’ll find: tiny crabs, limpets, barnacles, sea anemones and blennies hiding in shallow pools.

2. Porthpean Beach (St Austell Bay) – 10 mins away A sheltered beach ideal for families and known locally for its rock-pooling at low tide.  What you’ll find: hermit crabs, periwinkles, winkles, and tiny fish darting through seaweed forests.

 Rock-Pooling Tips

  • Go at low tide for the best pools.

  • Wear grippy shoes — rocks can be slippery!

  • Bring a bucket and magnifier but always return creatures gently.

  • Spot, learn and release — it’s all about respect for the sea’s tiny residents.

3. Eden Project is a dream day out for little nature lovers (and their grown-ups!). Just a 15-minute drive from Bosinver, it’s one of Cornwall’s most iconic eco-attractions — a place where kids can explore rainforests, gardens, insects, and sustainability all in one amazing setting.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan Located near St Austell (so very convenient from Bosinver) — these gardens are 200 acres of landscaped and naturalised grounds. Kids can wander through the jungle section, cross rope bridges, explore woodland trails, and spot different plants, birds and insects.
