Bosinver Nominated for Guardian Green Travel List

We’ve recently heard we’ve been nominated to appear in the 2011 Guardian Green Travel List. The List, compiled in association with greentraveller.co.uk, is an annual guide to companies worldwide that have shown evidence of commitment to community, place and the environment.

We’re thrilled to be included on the long list for this award; to be included at this stage is recognition of what we’ve achieved at Bosinver so far and our dedication to eco-friendly, sustainable business practices.

We are most grateful to the very thoughtful person who nominated us. Here’s what they wrote:
“They have introduced recycling facilities, energy saving features, composting, photovoltaic panels and won a Gold Green Tourism Business Award as a result. They also run a forest school that helps children reconnect with their natural environment through activities such as mini beast safaris, pond dipping, den building and toasting marshmallows on the campfire. To take the green side of the business a step further, they are now building a fully sustainable holiday cottage using straw bales in a timber frame sourced from local suppliers. It will be powered by solar panels and have a floor that acts as a large thermal store for the solar heat gained during the day. Rainwater from the roof will be captured and used for toilet flushing. Its roof will be turfed with Cornish plants which will act as insulation and provide a valuable habitat for wildlife. Every stage of the eco-build is being documented on line and workshops will be hosted in order to share the experience with as many people as possible and to inspire others to follow suit.”

So what happens next?

We’ve been asked to complete a questionnaire to tell them more about Lowen, our new eco-house, and our green practices in general. The judging panel will review all the questionnaires, and they’ll whittle down the entries to select the final list, which will be published in the Guardian newspaper.

Fingers crossed!
