Spring is here, the weather is starting to warm up and beach days are on the way!
A short 30-minute drive from Bosinver to the North Coast showcases some of the best beaches in the county.
Here’s our top 3 and why…
1- Perranporth Beach, a 3-mile-long sandy beach with dunes, rock pools, and a natural sea pool. The beach everyone remembers from their childhood family holidays. Big kids can go surfing, little kids can play in the pool or rock pools, it’s great for all ages and there’s a pub right on the beach, The Watering Hole. There is a great choice of fish and chip shops in the village close by if you want to stay late and enjoy supper on the beach. Perranporth Beach is dog friendly all year with restrictions during July and August where dogs have to be kept on a lead.
2- A short 10-minute drive up the coast from Perranporth Beach is Polly Joke Beach. Nestled into between two headlands, it’s often overlooked so it’s a great beach for getting away from the crowds. The headland on the left is great for seal spotting with uninterrupted views down to their secluded beach. You will often see them sleeping on the sand and if not, you will most definitely see them swimming!
The headland on the other side of the beach, you can see the annual bloom of poppies. The headland explodes into a sea of red with thousands of poppies bursting into life! it’s a fantastic sight and highlights the sheer beauty of nature. You’ll be able to see this in June and July. Polly Joke Beach is dog friendly all year round.
3- With over a mile of sandy beach, Crantock Beach is a perfect family-friendly beach that rarely gets crowded. On a low tide, the River Gannel is the perfect place for the kids to play in shallow pools. There’s a small bridge going over the river which is a hit with keen crabbers, so remember to take a net and bucket! In the carpark, there is the Big Green Adventures Surf School where you can hire paddle boards and kayaks to explore further up the river on an incoming tide, or you can book a surf lesson for the nippers. Click here for all tide times so you can plan your day!
There’s a small kiosk on the beach where you can buy ice creams and hot drinks and a short 5-minute walk into the village is a great local pub called The Cornishman that serves lots of local ales and the Jam Jar Kitchen serving the tastiest handmade fresh pizzas. Crantock Beach is dog friendly all year round.
