I was very proud to learn that 3 local Councillors had nominated me to be one of the 60 over 60 most inspirational people in Cornwall. Councillor James, Mustoe, Richard Pears and Cherilyn Mackrory all put me forward in the Community Champion sector for my work with Final Straw Cornwall and my litter picking and beach cleaning group in Charlestown.
The campaign was launched by Cornwall Council in April this year and its aim was to find people who were ageing and living well across Cornwall, working unpaid, making a difference in their communities, helping spread culture across Cornwall, as volunteer superstars, health crusaders and everyday heroes.
I was selected in my category and attended a celebratory afternoon tea at County Hall last Monday. We were all awarded our certificates and photographed with the Sponsors. A lovely buffet of sandwiches and scones with jam and cream followed and a chance to chat with fellow oldies!
Thank you to the aforementioned Councillors for choosing me and to Cornwall Council for recognising the hard work we all do and the value we give to our local communities, even if we take a bit longer to do it these days!
