Raynor Winn’s ‘The Salt Path’ is a fabulous book detailing a life changing and healing walk along the length of the SW coast path with her husband Moth when they were in the depths of despair when he was diagnosed with a terminal illness after losing both their home and their livelihood. The couple live here in Cornwall, near Fowey and I was lucky enough to meet Raynor at a talk she was giving about that walk which really inspired me to undertake my solo 300 mile hike along the Cornwall section 9 years ago.
Action Nan: My 300 mile walk around Cornwall – Farm Holiday Cottages Cornwall
Set against the stunning landscapes of the UK’s longest National Trail, the film beautifully captures the rawness of nature, the challenges of the journey, and the profound connection between people and the natural world. It’s a poignant exploration of survival, hope, and the power of the human spirit when faced with adversity.
The South West Coast Path is a freely accessible walking/ hiking trail. It can be accessed from many points along its 630 mile route and can be walked in small sections or longer sections. There are also many circular walks that can be undertaken or walks that link in with public transport. Check out the Walks section on the South West Coast Path website for a range of walks along the path.

Raynor has written 2 subsequent books, ‘The Wild Silence’ and ‘Landlines’. I much preferred Landlines which details a subsequent trip for them both after Moth’s illness flares up again – this time walking from Scotland back to Cornwall.
