An indulgent spa day at Bedruthan

Spas have become increasingly popular over the past few years. A few hours out to relax is a great way to treat yourself (or someone else) when youโ€™re on holiday.

One of our favourite spas is at the Bedruthan Hotel at Mawgan Porth. Theyโ€™ve come up with a range of tantalising options to suit everyone. You can have some time together as a couple, get away with the girls, or even take the kids. Yes, really. Bedruthanโ€™s family day spa package (ยฃ49 for adults, ยฃ29 for children) includes a family swim session, plus a two hour childcare session โ€“ giving you time to enjoy a 25 minute treatment and make the most of the spa facilities before you all meet up again for lunch.

The spa looks directly on to Mawgan Porth beach, allowing you to relax in the Jacuzzi and take in the view. If the weatherโ€™s good, you can sit on one of the outdoor sun loungers, sip green tea and soak up the sun.

Weโ€™re also big fans of their Wild Cafรฉ. The food there is simple and contemporary, made using fresh, locally grown seasonal produce. The menu includes some tasty classics, such as burgers, soup, pizza, sandwiches, plus tapas and British and Middle Eastern inspired salads, and of course, the ubiquitous Cornish cream tea. Kids get their own menu, with daily specials.

Things to do in the area

The beaches in the area are definitely worth exploring. Take a stroll down the hill to Mawgan Porth beach, a wide sandy beach with interesting caves to explore and plenty of room for beach games and sandcastle competitions.

If you fancy a longer walk, follow the coast path to the famous Bedruthan Steps (ask at the hotel reception and theyโ€™ll give you a map and instructions).

The walk along the coastline is stunning. Opinions are divided about whether the name Bedruthan Steps refers to the number of steep steps you have to climb down to get to the beach, the distinctive volcanic rock stacks, or both. Thereโ€™s also a local legend that the stacks were created by a giant who used them as stepping stones to get across the bay. Note: Itโ€™s not safe to swim at Bedruthan Steps. Check the tide times before venturing down on to the beach, as thereโ€™s the potential to get cut off at high tide.

Getting there

Mawgan Porth is approx 30 mins drive from Bosinver.

There are a variety of spa days on offer, priced from ยฃ15 for a ยฝ day spa session (treatments not included). Call 01637 861219 or email spa@bedruthan.com to book. The spa is popular, so we would recommend booking in advance to make sure youโ€™re not disappointed.
