Bosinver makes a great base for baby friendly days out in Cornwall. We’re ideally situated just off the A390 near St Austell, making it easy to explore all that Cornwall has to offer. There are lots of fantastic baby friendly attractions just a hop, skip and a jump away – so you don’t have to travel far if you don’t want to.
Pat Smith (aka Nanny Pat) has been exploring the length and breadth of Cornwall with grandchildren of various ages in tow, so she’s become a bit of an expert on where to go. You can read about their days out on our blog, or download our free copy of our ebook, Nanny Pat’s Adventures.
Here are some of Nanny Pat’s favourite baby friendly days out in Cornwall to get you started.
Blue Reef Aquarium
Little ones will love discovering the mysterious world under the sea at Blue Reef Aquarium. Get ready for a close encounter as you walk through the spectacular underwater tunnel and watch rays, eels, sharks and turtles swim past.
Your admission ticket allows you to go in and out as much as you like throughout the day, so you can easily combine your visit with playtime on the beach. Blue Reef overlooks Towan Beach, which is perfect for paddling and sandcastle building.
Trebah Garden
Trebah is a magical sub-tropical garden which is open all year round. Most of the garden is accessible and buggy friendly, with wide, level paths (although as it’s a valley garden, it can be steep in places). Trebah has its own private beach, and while there are a few steps to access it, you can leave your buggy safely in the garden and carry your baby the short distance to the sand. There’s also an excellent café and good, clean toilets with baby changing facilities.
Trelissick
A tranquil garden in a wonderful setting overlooking the estuary of the River Fal, Trelissick is one of our favourite places to visit throughout the year. There’s so much to explore, and most of garden has wide gravel or tarmac paths which are level or gently sloping and suitable for buggies and pushchairs. The popular Woodland Walk around the estate offers beautiful views and adventures around every corner (although we recommend a baby backpack carrier to make the most of it).
Lappa Valley
Lappa Valley has been a firm favourite for years, and it just keeps getting better. Watch the delight spread across your little one’s face as they catch sight of the miniature steam train! The indoor and outdoor play areas are also excellent. There are heaps of activities to keep the whole family amused – miniature golf always goes down well!
Lanhydrock
While a National Trust country estate might not seem like the most obvious place for a baby friendly day out, they’ve worked hard at Lanhydrock to make everything accessible and welcoming for families with young children. It’s all the little touches that make a difference – there’s a secure buggy park and lockers, and they’ve got baby carriers for you to borrow when you visit the house.
If you’re feeling adventurous, there are lots of trails you can explore on foot or by bike. Toddlers’ eyes will light up when they see the adventure playground…
