When you’re away on holiday with toddlers or young children you don’t want to be trailing in and out of cafes or restaurants to try to find one that’s family friendly. And equally you don’t want to arrive at somewhere fabulous with the kids in tow only to find out you need to book a table in advance.
So here our our recommendations (based on places we love and what other guests have told us).
Our top child friendly cafes/restaurants
1. Pinky Murphy’s, Fowey. A trip to Fowey isn’t complete without popping in to Pinky Murphys. It’s wonderfully electic, with huge, colourful beanbags the kids will love. Sip a smoothie outside in the summer or cozy up indoors in cooler months with a FatBoy hot chocolate.
2. Sam’s on the Beach, Polkerris. A hugely popular venue with locals and visitors alike. Based in the old RNLI lifeboat station at Polkerris, Sam’s on the Beach is full of character and the pizzas are to die for. Top tip: It’s worth booking a table in advance during peak season to make sure you get in.
3. Gylly Beach Cafe, Falmouth. Another great year-round cafe right on the beach. Sit and watch the waves rolling in while the kids get busy with the crayons and colouring sheets provided. Sit indoors or out (they have outdoor heaters too), and enjoy some delicious locally sourced produce. Top tip: If the weather’s not great, keep kids amused in the excellent Maritime Museum or head to Ships and Castles Leisure Centre for the flume and wave machines.
4. Beach Hut, Watergate Bay. The views don’t come any better than this! Whether you go for breakfast, lunch or dinner, there’s plenty on the menu to keep everyone happy. It’s an ideal place to fuel up after tackling one of the Extreme Academy’s watersports sessions or a long, bracing walk along the beach. Recommended to book in advance during peak season.
5. Godrevy Cafe, Gwithian nr Hayle. A beach cafe with beautiful views and delicious cake! Popular with families for Sunday lunch – get there early to bag a table. Don’t forget your buckets and spades – this is an ideal beach for sandcastle building. Top tip: Don’t miss the walk along the cliff path round past the lighthouse to see the seal colony.
