Experience The Salt Path Adventure with Your Children Near Bosinver

The Salt Path movie, set to release in cinemas in April this year, is based on the bestselling book by Raynor Winn. It narrates the journey of Ray Winn (Gillian Anderson) and her husband, Moth Winn (Jason Isaacs), along the South West Coast Path following the devastating loss of their home and livelihood, Raynor and her terminally ill husband, Moth, decide to walk the 630-mile South West Coast Path as a way to find purpose and healing amidst their hardship.

If you love the outdoors as much as we do and you want to explore some of the South West Coast Path with your family whilst here at Bosinver, we’ve got all the knowledge to get you going with your rucksacks and picnics!

For those of you that don’t know, the South West Coast Path is a 630 mile route in the South West of England, it runs along the Devon and Cornwall coastlines. Some of the filming locations in the film include Padstow, Newquay and Rame Head. The Cornish coast paths are accessible walking trails and can be done in short, long or circular sections, perfect for those little legs!

Here are our favourite child friendly walks near us…

Pentewan- Mevagissey- Chaple Point

Pentewan is a short ten minute drive from Bosinver and is the perfect starting point for a walk with the little ones. It’s a safe, sheltered beach with golden sands, making it the perfect starting to point to have an ice-cream! Dogs are welcome along the coast paths but there is a seasonal ban on the beach. If you want to do smaller walks, you could start at Mevagissey Harbour where you’ll see the high wall at the harbour entrance, this is a great place for crabbing and fishing if your little ones need to take a break. If you’re up for spotting some wildlife then take a short walk to Chapel Point. From the headland, you’ll discover a secluded beach which is home to a seal colony.

Polly Joke – Pentire Headland

A 30 minute drive from Bosinver will take you to the North Coast where you’re spoilt for choice for coastal walks. One of our favourite walks is from Polly Joke along the Pentire Headland. Although this is a short walk, it is a bit hilly. If your little one is not much of a walker, we have back carriers so they can soak up the views whilst chilling on your back. Around May to June, you’ll see the exciting display of thousands of red poppies. The coast path on the other side of the beach heading to Holywell, you’ll find the hidden cove, home to hundreds of seals. You’re almost guaranteed to see them sleeping on the beach as long as you’re quiet! The coast paths around Polly Joke are easily accessible but not wheelchair of buggy friendly. This area is great to take the dog for a walk but take care when livestock are around.

Portscatho

Once you’ve visited the Roseland, you’ll wonder why you’ve never visited before. If you’re looking for a family friendly coastal walk with a culinary twist, we highly recommend a visit. A 30 minute drive from Bosinver, look for Porthcurnick Beach carpark. From the carpark, head left to the coast path and walk towards Porthcurnick Beach. Just before you get to the beach, you’ll find The Hidden Hut beach café which shot to fame when it featured in Caroline Quentin’s “Cornwall on TV”.Porthcurnick Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, ideal for rock pooling. We have all gear available you to borrow from our green shed.
