Bosinver’s Great Outdoors

We're all about the natural world here at Bosinver, come and get wild with us

We’re pretty proud of our beautiful cottages but here at Bosinver we want you t o spend as much time outside as you can! Woodlands conceal several hidden play areas, we have a beautiful lake to enjoy, nature trails to explore, a Bosinver bird watch, Gruffalo trail and Wild Kids Club for them to get stuck into.

Our environment and outdoor play

Childhoods were once spent outside, enjoying everything nature has to offer. Woodland walks, a wellie hunt and nature trail and our Gruffalo trail are just some of the activities that Pat and Dave have created to bring guests of all ages closer to the abundance of nature on our doorstep. We have 30 acres of diverse habitat, farmed organically with ancient hedgerows and untended field margins, wildflower meadows, wetland, woodland, and our own private lake – and everyone who stays at Bosinver is encouraged to learn about and enjoy these very special places. Find out more about the nature and wildlife at Bosinver.

On our 30-acre farm there are lots of outdoor activities to keep guests busy!

Woodland and lake

If you fancy an adventure or just to spend a while in nature, you’ll enjoy our woodland and lake area – venture through the gate near the games room and down through the fields past the zip wire and big green slide to find one of the most magical spots at Bosinver. The lake is full of life – frogs and toads, fish, moorhens, ducks and the occasional heron (on the lookout for a free meal!) – and in Spring and Summer the lake is fringed with wildflowers such as ragged robin and the impressive yellow flag iris.

Have a go at fishing in our lake or just sit a while and take in the view as dragonflies and damselflies dart amongst the reeds. There’s even an idyllic picnic spot for those days when it’s just too nice to be eating indoors. Bliss!

Between Olearia and Coliza there’s a children’s play area with a ride-on tractor, combine harvester, sandpit, swings and a beautiful Wendy House. There’s also a large trampoline – big enough for mum and dad to have a go too!

If you head down towards the lake you’ll find our ever-popular zip wire, bendy slide and a huge tyre swing. Plus we now have new climbing wall and pull up ramp for little adventurers to test their climbing skills.

Wild Kids

Our Wild Kids sessions are often the highlight of the week. Held once a week (usually Mondays) in the main season (subject to weather and availability of our Forest School Leader, Tatum), kids of all ages get the chance to enjoy playing outdoors together with nature crafts, games and campfire marshmallow toasting in our special Wild Kids hut. It really is proper good old-fashioned outdoor fun!

Wellie hunt

Come join us on a wellie hunt! There are fifteen ‘wellies’ with letters on them in secret locations all around Bosinver. We’ve got prizes up for grabs if you can spot them all and solve the final puzzle!

Gruffalo trail

Did you know, the Gruffalo’s been spotted amongst the trees down by our lake? Are you brave enough to track him down? Borrow the much loved book from our reception to read as you go around the trail (but then you probably know it off by heart anyway!)

Hidden animals trail

Watch out for animals along our woodland walk – both real and man-made versions! We’ve hidden lots of animals around the trail for children to find. Pick up a trail sheet from the office and head down to the woods and see how many of our animal friends you can find hiding there! If you spot where all the animals are hiding you can win a prize!

Older children and adults will enjoy our Big Bosinver Birdwatch challenge – every Sunday after animal feeding Farmer Dave offers guests the opportunity to borrow a bird feeder so they can watch them from the comfort of their cottage and have a go at identifying the birds seen. We have provided each cottage with its own copy of the RSPB’s Birdwatching for Beginners – a great little book which contains lots of tips to make identification easy.

We give out prizes every week for Champion Spotter and best photo or drawing and if any help is needed with identification we are always keen to join in.
