Lowen — made with a little magic and a lot of love
A little bit of magic and a lot of love went into building Lowen. It’s carbon neutral and energy self sufficient, using PV panels and a ground source heat pump to provide electricity, heating and hot water to the house.
There’s even an LED screen in the hall where you can see how much energy is being produced, used and saved at any time and Lowen is complete with a Type 2 EV charging point for electric vehicles.
And that’s not all – almost all the furnishings are either environmentally friendly and/or recycled and locally sourced too.
Why we built Lowen
Part of the reason we built Lowen was to demonstrate that it’s possible to construct buildings and run a business with a low environmental impact – with the aim of inspiring others to do the same.
We also wanted to show guests how renewable technologies work, and that going green doesn’t have to mean sacrificing comfort or style. Lowen is our most luxurious property yet!
Our aim throughout the build was to source materials and labour as locally as possible. Where possible, all the furnishings are eco-friendly and/or recycled and locally sourced. We’re also committed to supporting local artists and craftspeople: much of the furniture and artwork in Lowen was specially commissioned from artisans in Cornwall.

Thanks to a European Regional Development Programme grant we are currently working with zlc energy to develop an energy monitoring system across the whole Bosinver site so we can remotely monitor consumption and reduce our total electricity usage.
