ITV’s 4 part drama “Playing Nice” filming locations near Bosinver

Cornwall is the hub for filming TV shows, movies and drama series like The Salt Path, Dr Who, Poldark and most recently, “Playing Nice“. Based on the best-selling novel by JP Delaney, Playing Nice is about two couples that discover their toddlers were switched at birth in a hospital mix-up, and face a horrifying dilemma: keep the sons they have raised and loved, or reclaim their biological child? Having watched this, I can say it was truly gripping and exciting to see so many familiar Cornish landscapes!

The closest location is Mevagissey harbour, featured in episode 1. If you like a quaint fishing village, full of picturesque windy streets, great pasties and old Cornish pubs, then it’s worth a visit. It is just a short 10 minute drive from us, with easy access to the South West coast path and the harbour makes a great spot for crabbing with the little ones, we have all the gear here for you to use.

The Tate St Ives featured in episode 2 where all 4 parents attend a fundraiser. St Ives should be on everyone’s holiday itinerary, not only do you have a range of cool places to eat and drink, lots of art galleries and great surf, you are also spoilt for choice with gorgeous golden beaches surrounding the fishing town. Just an hour’s drive from Bosinver, our favourite way to get there is to park outside St Ives, in Lelant, and catch the train. The 20 minute ride has some of the most scenic views in the country, and you don’t need to worry about parking in the busy town. If you venture along the beach front, you can relax on the beach or take advantage of the offerings of fishing trips, boat rides around the bay or seal watching.

Padstow Harbour, located directly above us on the North Coast, is a 40 minute drive from Bosinver. It’s conveniently located by the River Camel estuary which is great for cycling with the little ones. The town itself is a popular foodie destination, thanks to Rick Stein. The National Lobster Hatchery is located at the beginning of the cycle trail along with Rick Steins fish and chip shop and the South West coast path is easily accessible for a level easy coastal walk or catch the ferry across to Daymer Bay.

Mawgan Porth is a beach and small town on the North Coast between Newquay and Padstow, about a 35 minute drive from Bosinver.  The long sheltered beach is popular with families with young children for it’s golden sand, rock pools, dunes and caves. It’s dog friendly all year round and much less crowded than the beaches in Newquay. There’s a brilliant surf school “Kingsurf” that offer lessons for all levels of surfing, even if it is your first time. Episode 1 of Playing Nice shows a surfing scene from this beach!

The Jubilee Pool, is located on the seafront in Penzance which is an hour’s drive from Bosinver. Episode 2 features a confrontation between the two mums in the pool and scenes along the seafront. The Jubilee Pool is the UK’s largest saltwater sea pool with a geothermal pool which is heated to 28-30 degrees via a geothermal well. The pool is about two degrees warmer than the sea and is lifeguarded making it a safe place to cold water swim. The pool holds many events throughout the year including their famous dog day swim! At the end of the season, the pool is open for dogs and owners to go for a swim, before it gets emptied. It’s a fantastic event to see a pool full of four legged friends!
